Super Monster is a word game for families. A child builds their own monster and earns the parts by learning words — nearly two thousand of them, each with a picture, spoken out loud. It works in either direction: Slovak for an English speaker, or English for a Slovak speaker.

Getting started

Open the app. If nobody has played on this device before, choose Začíname · Start here.
Pick a name — a nickname is fine, it does not have to be a real one — and which language to learn.
Choose a four-digit PIN for the child, and a different one for yourself. The second one opens the page for grown-ups.
That is the whole sign-up. No email address, no password, no account.

After that, the front screen is just a keypad. The child types their PIN and lands straight in their own monster.

Questions

Somebody forgot their PIN.: Type your PIN on the front screen to open the page for grown-ups, pick the player, and set a new one under PIN. PINs are stored scrambled so nobody — including us — can look one up, but setting a new one takes a moment and keeps everything they have earned.
I forgot the grown-ups' PIN.: There is no way in from the app, by design. Write to the address at the bottom of this page from the address you registered with, and we will talk you through resetting it on the server.
How do I add another child?: Page for grown-ups → Add a player. Give them a name and a PIN nobody else in the family uses — the front screen tells people apart by the PIN alone.
How do I get it onto a second tablet or phone?: Page for grown-ups → Add a device. Point the new device's camera at the square, or open the app there, choose Už mám príšerku · I already have a monster and type the code. Everyone's monsters and points follow the family, so the new device sees all of them. Each player still needs their own PIN.
Does it work without internet?: Yes — completely. Play once with a connection so the words are on the device, and after that it works on a plane, in the car or anywhere with no signal. Answers given offline count, and catch up with the server by themselves next time there is one.
The words are read with an English accent, or not at all.: The app uses the voices your device has. On Android, Slovak is usually not installed: Settings → System → Languages & input → Text-to-speech → install the Slovak voice. On iPhone and iPad: Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices.
There is no sound at all.: Check the volume, and that the ring switch is not silencing it. The apps from the App Store and Google Play play sound even on silent; the version added to the home screen from a browser cannot.
How do I delete everything?: Page for grown-ups → Remove a player for one child, or Delete everything for the whole family. Both happen at once and neither can be undone. There is no copy anywhere else.
Is it really free? Are there adverts?: Free, no adverts, nothing to buy, no analytics and nothing shared with anybody. The stars in the shop are earned by answering, never bought.
A word has the wrong picture, or is spelt wrong.: Write and say which word. The list is edited by hand and corrections reach every family the same evening, without anybody updating anything.
