Privacy
Super Monster is a game that helps children learn words. It has no accounts, no email addresses, no advertising, no analytics and no third-party tracking of any kind. Nothing about your family is sold, shared or sent anywhere. This page says exactly what is stored and how to delete it.
What is stored
When someone starts playing, they choose a nickname and a four-digit PIN. That is the whole sign-up. There is no email address, no password, no real name, no date of birth, no phone number and no way for us to work out who anybody is.
- A nickname, chosen by the player
- So the right monster opens, and so a grown-up can tell one player from another. It can be anything; it does not have to be a real name.
- A four-digit PIN, stored scrambled
- So one child does not open another's monster. The PIN itself is never stored and cannot be read back out.
- A random code for the device
- Made by your own browser the first time the app runs, and kept on the device. It is how the app knows which household is asking, which is what lets the PIN be only four digits. It is not built from anything about your device or your family, and it identifies nobody outside this app.
- The game — the monster, the parts bought, the points, the babies
- So it is all still there tomorrow, and on the other tablet.
- Quiz answers — which word, right or wrong, and when
- So harder words come round more often, and so the page for grown-ups can show how it is going. It is a list of words and ticks, nothing more.
- Time spent playing
- For the daily time limit, and the minutes shown on the grown-ups' page.
- A family code
- A random string of letters, so a second tablet can join the same household.
- A scrambled form of your internet address, for up to two days
- The only thing here that is not about the game. Starting a household is the one thing a complete stranger can do, so the app counts how many have been started from one place to stop somebody running a script at it. The address itself is never written down — only an irreversible scramble of it — it is never connected to a player, and it is deleted after two days.
What is not stored
- No email address, phone number, real name or date of birth.
- No location, not even roughly.
- No photographs, microphone or camera access. The app never asks.
- No contacts, no calendar, no other apps, nothing else on the device.
- No advertising identifiers, no advertising, no analytics, no tracking across apps or sites, no “pixels”, no social media buttons.
- Nothing typed into the app is sent anywhere except this server.
Who else sees it
Nobody. Nothing is sold, rented, shared or handed to anyone for advertising, and there is no third-party code in the app — no software kits, no trackers, no chat widgets.
Two technical exceptions, both unavoidable and neither of them about your family:
- Cloudflare sits in front of this site to keep it up and keep attacks off it. Like any such service it briefly sees the internet address of anyone who visits, and sets a cookie of its own to tell people from robots. It is not used for advertising.
- If the app was installed from the App Store or Google Play, those companies know you installed it, the way they do for every app. They are not told anything about what happens inside it.
Cookies
One, from this site: a session cookie that remembers which monster is open while the app is being used. It carries no personal information and is not used for advertising. It disappears when the browser or the app is closed. Cloudflare sets its own, as above. The game itself is also kept on the device so it works with no connection; that copy never leaves the device.
Children
This app is meant to be used by children, so it is built to know as little about them as possible. It asks for a nickname and nothing else. There is no chat, no messaging, no way for a child to be contacted, no links out to the web, no purchases of any kind, and no advertising. The only thing kept is what the game needs to still be there tomorrow.
The page for grown-ups — where you add a player, set a daily limit, add another device or delete things — is behind a separate PIN that only a grown-up should know, and the app never mentions that the page exists.
Deleting it
You can do it yourself, at any time, without asking anyone:
- Open the app and type the grown-up's PIN on the front screen.
- Remove a player deletes that child and everything of theirs. Delete everything removes the whole household — every player, the family code and the list of devices.
Both happen immediately and neither can be undone. There is no copy anywhere else and nothing is kept back. Deleting the app from a device also removes the copy of the game held on that device.
If you are in the EU or the UK you have the right to see what is held about you, to have it corrected, and to have it erased. The buttons above are the fastest route to all three; you can also ask, and a request will be answered within a month.
Where it is kept, and for how long
On a server in the European Union, run by the person named below. Nothing is copied to another country. It is kept until you delete it, because a game you come back to after a summer should still have your monster in it.
Changes
If this ever changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything significant will be said inside the app rather than quietly here.
